A Brief Summary of This PositionThe Material Controller performs and oversees the receiving of raw material and purchased parts through established procedures from service providers and coordinates through Quality Assurance for non-conforming materials. This position performs various inspections of materials and equipment. This position uses the computer for finding part number locations and quantity for issuing activities. Audits are also performed as needed comparing tags and records with actual material.
Essential Functions

  • Emphasis on inventory accuracy within the storage areas
  • Responsible for receiving vendor and unprocessed parts and ensuring proper movement of parts within Valmont.
  • Responsible for unloading various materials and parts utilizing industrial motorized equipment
  • Coordinates with Quality Assurance regarding materials that are non-conforming to Valmont standards
  • Responsible for performing inspections of materials in regards to proper stacking, loading, and move tag accuracy and per specifications to match delivery receipts
  • Monitors availability and storage of material handling devices in an accessible area for easy retrieval
  • Reviews and corrects all issues and receivers for completeness, reasonableness and accuracy
  • Prioritizes pending issue4s and delivers so they are made on time to satisfy manufacturing and shipping needs as well as group orders
  • Maintains good housekeeping in working area and department
  • Compliance will all safety regulations and rules
  • Performs routine inspections on industrial equipment used within the department
    Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
    • Three or more years of experience within a material handling control or related field
    • At least one year of experience operating a forklift in a professional environment
    • The ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, work with fractions and decimal conversions, and count accurately
    • The ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds with 20 pound objects being lifted repeatedly throughout the shift
    • The ability to climb into the forklift, stoop, crouch and move about the shop and yard area
    • The ability to understand and follow verbal instructions in English
    • The ability to read specifications and bills of material
    • A working knowledge of using e-mail
    • The ability to work over ten hours a week in overtime when required for business needs
    • Strong analytical, problem solving, planning, communication, and follow-through skills
    • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple distractions
    • A satisfactory safety record and awareness of others safety as well as their own
    • An acceptable work history and attendance record
    • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
    • Ability to work overtime during the busy season and occasional irregular hours
      Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
      • Previous storeroom work experience in a professional environment
      • An understanding of Lean and 5S principles
      • Previous experience working with IFS and QAD Cloud ERP (QAD MFG/PRO)
