Job Title Weekend Supervisor Location Sebring, FL Department Nursing FLSA Status Non-Exempt Reports to Mildred Smith Shifts hiring Part-time PRIMARY PURPOSE AND JOB FUNCTIONWorking in accordance with established policies and procedures and/or specific instructions from the Charge Nurse, the Staff Nurse is responsible for hands on resident care, proper and timely administration of medications and treatments, accurate verbal and written reports and rapid response to any/all emergency situations. Responsible for demonstrating understanding, patience, tact and courtesy in dealing with employees, residents, residents' family and visitors. Ability to supervise staff and maintain good working relationships with staff. The position of Staff Nurse must be staffed by ei an R.N.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPThis position is under the direction of the Director or Assistant Director of NursingDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEssential Job Functions:

  • During emergencies or natural disasters, you may be required to report for duty as assigned by the Director of Nursing and/or Administrator for the duration of the disaster.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
  • Has overall supervisory responsibility on weekends for Health Care Center and maintains any necessary communication with Director and/or Assistant Director of Nursing/Risk Manager.
  • Performs duties of front line supervisor to other nursing staff including Certified Nursing Assistants. May perform professional nursing services which includes but is not limited to resident assessments, recording vital signs, administering medications, enemas, catheterization, suctioning, intravenous fluids (if applicable), sterile technique dressings, set-up and following isolation techniques, set-up and administration of oxygen, physical and emotional caring techniques.
  • Assess and assist in implementing restorative and rehabilitative nursing for residents by communicating the instruction in activities of daily living or other self-help techniques as outlined in the resident care plan.
  • Makes rounds on a regular basis assessing resident needs and appearance of facility, verifying resident needs are being met.
  • Responds to emergency needs within the Health Center and the residential buildings.
  • Responsible for timely documentation of written reports and verbal report on any/all unusual or abnormal observations, emergency care, resident needs, family concerns, change in physician's orders, narcotic records, follow-up care, resident care plan revisions, any/all changes related to ensuring that quality resident care is provided and staff incident reports are handled appropriately.
  • Communicates with resident, family, friends, Health Center staff, pharmacy and others as necessary on resident needs and concerns in a professional manner.
  • Responds with both verbal and physical communication in an endeavor to meet all emotional, physical, social, and spiritual needs of residents, families, and staff members.
  • Assigns nursing personnel to specific jobs and spot checks work to ensure Health Center standards are met.
  • Attends in-service training and educational seminars as needed to maintain professional license and keep abreast of current nursing practices.
  • Relates an accurate and thorough report to the on coming shift in order to ensure the continuity of maximum resident's care. SPECIFICATIONSFACTORS SUBSTANTIATING DATAEducation: Must have the ability to read, write and speak English. Must be a graduate of an approved school of nursing and posses a current nursing license to practice nursing in the state of Florida.Experience: Geriatric nursing background preferred.Complexity: A broad knowledge of applicable health and nursing home regulations, and the ability to work with physicians, nurses, other health care providers, and family members in ensure quality of care standards for residents are maintained. Must be able to work and make appropriate decisions consistent with established policies independently without consultation.Supervision Received: This position operates under administrative authority and the Florida Nurse Practice ActContact with Others: Frequent contact with residents, facility employees, and family members. This requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally as well as in writing. Because the position involves direct resident contact, and many elderly residents have significant loss of hearing, an articulate command of the English language is required.Errors: Probable errors could cause a decline in health of residents, resident dissatisfaction or discomfort, and significant expense to the facility; therefore, this position must work independently and accurately. Non-compliance with universal precautions could have serious consequences.Confidentiality: Works with confidential data whose disclosure would be contrary to the best interests of the facility and professional ethics. Actively promotes resident confidence and rights.Sensory: Flow of work demands visual acuity, must have the ability to handle simultaneous tasks in a fast paced environment. Must be able to identify potential hazards, comprehend consequences and determine actions.SPECIFICATIONSPhysical Demands: Position requires the ability to perform complex tasks that requires gross and fine motor skills. Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs and assist in moving residents. Demonstrate physical dexterity in moving, bending, stooping and pulling. Able to withstand walking or standing for long periods of time.Working Conditions: Normally works in well-lighted and well-ventilated areas. Exposed to infection, offensive odors and to peculiarities in behavior and reactions of the aged, including confused and combative residents. Assists in emergency situations during which time may be exposed to cold, rain and heat and may be subject to long work hours during emergency conditions.Scope of Supervision: Staff nurse may supervise other nursing staff and/or CNAs.Safety: Considerable responsibility for safety of others, including residents and staff members. The possibility of causing an injury to others is considerable. Requires the ability to understand and to follow policy and procedures of infection control, disaster preparedness, safety rules and regulations and department rules.Hazards: Injuries are possible due to the use of medical equipment, supplies, and contact with residents. This position is occupationally classified as being at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.Equipment: Various medical equipment, including but not limited to, suction equipment, oxygen tanks, pumps and hoyer lift, nurse call system, computer and telephone equipment, facsimile machine, photocopier and golf carts.DISCLAIMER CLAUSEI have read my Job Description and Specification.
