Job Title Director of Sponsored Programs Job Description Summary This position performs administrative and technical functions associated with grants, contracts, and other agreements associated with internal and external funding sources. This position will also ensure compliance with both the University and award agency policies, manage sub-contracts, track and support sponsored research applications, and assures timely compliance with grant and contract requirements. Job Description RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide pre-award support to faculty and staff, including but not limited to proposal development, budget development, and proposal submission. Manage the day-to-day operations for the administration and management for sponsored research projects, to include functions in the areas of pre-award, post-award, compliance, financial management, external reporting and audit functions. Assist administration in development of long-term organizational strategies, internal policies and business methods and research infrastructure development. Development and coordination of education and training curriculum for faculty, staff, and students to train, enhance and promote research award administration processes, research compliance, export control, and responsible conduct in research. Identify external funding opportunities, develop funding strategies and assist, approve and submit external proposal documents in accordance with university and external sponsor policies and regulations. Work with legal counsel to negotiate contracts and awards with external funding agencies, ensure compliance with both university and award agency policies, manage sub-contracts with other institutions, track sponsored research applications and results, and oversee a smooth transition of awards to post-award activities. Manage ongoing support of sponsored projects for the entire life of the award, to include oversight and management for areas, such as award acceptance, expenditures, fiscal management, effort reporting, award amendments and project closeout responsibilities. Ensure research conducted on or off the University campus, including collaborative research with industry or other institutions, is conducted in compliance with university, local, state, federal and funding agency regulations. Ensure issues and disputes are concisely communicated, resolved, and documented in accordance with applicable regulations, policies. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Ability to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects. Knowledge of federal, state and/or community funding sources and mechanisms. Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of pertinent government regulations as well as compliance requirements. Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to develop and implement policies and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field. Demonstrated experience with federal grants and/or contracts. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 3 years' experience in sponsored programs/research administration Experience with sponsored project administration, fiscal management or related business, preferably in a public institutional setting.
