With over 260 operating locations and approximately 8,500 employees, Oldcastle APG operates across 7 countries in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.Job SummaryThe Transportation Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of transportation at Oldcastle APG Lawn & Garden facilities and customers in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. The transportation network includes both private fleet and hired haul operations. - Customers include national home improvement retailers, building product dealers, and contractor job sites. The Transportation Manager will report to the VP of Operations. - The position will have a team member who optimizes and plan shipments. - The Transportation Manager role is modeled off similar roles developed in Oldcastle APG. The Transportation Manager will implement strategy to improve customer service, maintain world-class safety levels, ensure compliance with regulations, drive continuous improvement, and reduce costs. This position will interact with multiple business units and departments under Oldcastle APG Lawn & Garden to deliver best-in-class transportation services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee transportation out of sites that rely on private fleet, dedicated haulers, and hired haul. These sites are in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina
  • Support targeted transportation initiatives and projects in adjacent operating companies as directed
  • Display proactive mindset and seek to understand and cultivate opportunities to improve logistics across the region
  • Manage and lead the time and delivery at the best cost in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina
  • Responsible for strategic logistical planning for all locations
  • Ensure Drivers are trained and remain in compliance with DOT regulations and Company policies
  • Ensure operations comply with all DOT and Company policies and procedures
  • Make hiring decisions, manage performance, provide coaching, and issue discipline for transportation team
  • Responsible for service performance (On Time Delivery)
  • Responsible for fleet safety performance scores (CSA and PVIR)
  • Manage team that maintains driver qualification files including driver road tests
  • Manage team that audits driver logs to ensure drivers are compliant with hours-of-service regulations
  • Oversee fleet managers for insurance claims involving private fleet
  • Perform Lease/Buy decisions on equipment and provide recommendations for future Capex purchases including specifications
  • Oversee maintenance program for company vehicles -
  • Review current vendors and seek new vendors to help reduce cost and increase fleet efficiency
  • Working with site locations to refine and improve processes to increase transportation productivity
  • Recruit and negotiate rates with core carriers as needed
  • Ensure select carriers are responding to the daily customer service requirements and are operating within established budget guidelines and contractual agreements
  • Implement transportation-related company policy and programs and keep current on government rules and regulations, reporting when necessary to management team
  • Provide reporting on key KPI metrics to management

    • Manage a team that includes up to one direct reportSkills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements
      • Minimum four-year degree in business or related field or equivalent in experience, training, or education
      • Minimum 5+ years of experience in related transportation field; including experience utilizing transportation management software systems
      • Ability to travel up to 50%
      • Strong organizational skills
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
      • Strong Excel and Tableau skills
      • Good verbal & written communications skills
      • Ability to communicate and work with customers and drivers in a courteous, friendly, and professional mannerPhysical Requirements
